Jazz is my first love without question. Jazz is my romance from the time I knew romance. It is passion and young love. But as I have matured I have come to know many different genres and musical personalities. It is all water, ice, and snow. Music comes from the same substance but the beauty of it is the variety of its manifestations.  So no, I am not just a jazz artist. Nobody who hears me sing Tennesee Whiskey or any aria would think so. 

It has been really difficult. But not in the way you might expect. Of course, the amount of time dividing attention, losing sleep, rehearsal, travel, and those aspects were difficult. But at times the psychological pressure of having to be both law enforcement and performer was overwhelming. I'd find myself in a police car, in a police uniform, at a school, sitting in a parking lot emotionally debilitated from having to mutate into different versions of myself hours after getting off a plane singing and socializing with celebrities of the music industry. I'd often have to marginalize my personality, conversaton, and life depending on my work environment. Sometimes I was frustrated with my inability to pursue certain opportunities. I have made peace with all of that. I am who I am now. I'm not perfect either place but I am unique every place. I am proud of my military service and law enforcement career and I kind of see myself as a patriot who is also a performer. Even on stage, I am still a public servant. These are my roots!!

I listen to everything. But It really depends on my upcoming shows. I have recently enjoyed tenure at Gaillardia Country Club and so I've been preparing music appropriate for that lately. This is a multi-genre environment where I'm playing both guitar and piano. I play to the room. The job is to prepare hundreds of songs and structure the repetoire based on the attendance of members that evening. So you never know what your're going to sing. So you rehearse everything daily. That being said, I have recently been appreciating the technique of Pavoratti. I study him everyday.

I think my purpose is to use my story, my voice and my music to make a positive impact in the lives of humanity. This I have found is my work. And while you may retire from your job, you can never really retire from your work. It is my sincere desire to serve humanity with my gift. And it just so happens that my gift is my music.
